What are we made of? The Elemental in the Body and Cosmos

WHAT ARE WE MADE OF?

On one level, this philosophical/existential question has been pondered by our ancestors since the beginning of time. Is it relevant today? Yes increasingly so.

On another level, ‘what we’re made of’ can be answered in physical terms. We’re made of atoms, cells, minerals, nutrients, genes etc. But, if we put these together, can we create a human being? Can we create a flower with the knowledge of its’ structure, components, colour and scent? No we can’t, not yet, at this particular epoch in history.

However, ‘what we’re made of’ is becoming more known and uncovered by recent scientific breakthroughs, such as the genome and the epigenome. What they show is a much greater complexity than we previously anticipated. These modern studies also reflect how past knowledge – such as Ayurveda and Hippocratic Medicine – are more applicable and practically beneficial to our busy lives in the 21st century, for example:

  • the importance of diet on health
  • the significance of gut function on the body and mind
  • the effect of fasting on health and wellbeing

Come on the 16th of April to find out more, meet people who are interested in similar ideas and discuss these with an open mind in a friendly space, allowing for the scientific element to mingle with philosophical, cultural, historical elements and… cooking. Bring a friend if you want but, let me know beforehand, so that we can prepare the Ayurvedic snacks.
Warmest wishes,

Eleni
